Iran has chosen 'World War III' film, which won two honors at Venice Film Festival, as its Oscar submission for the Academy Awards in 2023.
The choice was announced on Monday, following a review of 57 films to choose Iran's submission for the Oscars 2023.
Directed by Houman Seyyedi, the flick grabbed the best film and best actor awards at the 2022 Venice International Film Festival in its Orizzonti section of the festival.
The film tells the story of Shakib -- played by actor Mohsen Tanabandeh -- a homeless worker who never got over the loss of his wife and son in an earthquake years ago. Now, he seeks comfort in the presence of Ladan, a deaf girl.
Iran has previously submitted several films for Oscar consideration, securing a total of two Oscars recognizing Asghar Farhadi’s films 'A Separation' and 'The Salesman'.
